Hearing and Vision Programs
For more information, see the following:
Hearing and vision screening is offered to children throughout Genesee County
by technicians trained by Michigan Department of Community Health.
Standardized training guidelines are used throughout the state. Ongoing
workshops, updates and reviews of technician competence provide quality assurance
by state-appointed evaluators.
Pre-school children are screened in a
variety of community settings as well as in walk-in clinics at McCree Courts and
Human Services Center. School-age screenings are conducted in schools during the
school year by appointment and on a walk-in basis year around. All students in kindergarten are screened for vision
and hearing either at pre-school kindergarten round-ups or during the school
year. Effort is made to help parents complete vision screening prior to school entry or before the September 30 reporting date
required by State statute. During the school year students are screened
for vision in grades 1, 3, 5, 7 and in conjunction with driver
education. Hearing screening is conducted in grades
kindergarten, 2 and 4. Students may be referred for
school screening by teachers or parents.
Screening services are offered
at a clinic on selected Fridays at
McCree Courts and Human Services Center,
630 S. Saginaw St. Although it is a
walk-in clinic, parents are encouraged
to phone 257-3612 for information and
appointments.
