RE:
April is STD Awareness Month
In
recognition of “STD Awareness Month” during April, the Genesee County Health
Department (GCHD) is promoting the national Get Yourself Tested (GYT)
movement that encourages testing for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
Of the approximately 19 million new STD cases that occur every year in the
United States, most will go un-diagnosed. Diagnosis and treatment of STD’s
is critical to safe-guarding personal health, fostering sexual
responsibility and addressing the wider STD epidemic. STD testing is easier
than ever and free “Rapid HIV” tests can provide results as quickly as 20
minutes.
The
GCHD encourages anyone who is sexually active to get tested and offers STD
and free HIV testing in the Women’s Health Services Programs at the GCHD
Burton Branch, G-3373 S. Saginaw St., Burton. Appointments are available
Monday through Friday, 8:00 am -4:00 pm, and Thursday, 11:00 am -7:00pm.
Call (810) 237- 4538 to schedule an appointment. Newly available in this
clinic are a limited number of walk-in STD/HIV testing slots daily.
Male testing services continue to be offered at the McCree South Health
Department clinic, 630 S. Saginaw St., Flint, on Monday from 8:00 am -4:00
pm and the 1st, 3rd, and 4th Tuesday from
