RE:
Free Health Screening for Seniors
As we
age, the need for health screening tests grows in importance.
Uncontrolled, elevated blood pressure increases the risk for strokes and
heart damage. Elevated glucose (blood sugar) can lead to diabetes. Knowing
what we are at risk for allows us to take steps to reduce those risks.
Early detection and early control is the key to survival. Unfortunately
many older people do not obtain important screening tests due to limited
finances.
The
Genesee County Health Department receives a grant that enables seniors
to obtain screening
services. Free screening tests are available for Genesee County residents,
age 60 years and older, at the Genesee County Health Department. Tests
include: cholesterol, glucose, BUN/creatinine (checks kidney function),
Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) and hemoglobin. Adult vaccines such as
tetanus, flu and pneumonia vaccines are also available if needed. These
services are available at the Burton Branch of the Genesee County Health
Department, at G-3373 S. Saginaw Street. Please call (810) 237-4570 and
ask for Senior Adult Health Screening to make an appointment.
