RE: Genesee County Health Department's 5th Public Health Week Conference "Healthy Places, Healthy People"

The Genesee County Health Department will be hosting its 5th Annual Public Health Week Conference on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at the Riverfront Center in Flint, Michigan. The conference is entitled “Healthy Places, Healthy People”.

The evidence is clear, where you live impacts your health. The goal of the conference is to provide information regarding place and health, to share information regarding the health challenges in Genesee County that have resulted from the economic crisis, to discuss strategies for improving healthy eating, active living and preventing youth violence, to examine the link between education and the social determinants of health, and to inspire conference participants in the process.

The conference will feature nationally-recognized keynote speakers, including Dr. Linda Rae Murray, President of the American Public Health Association and Medical Officer for Cook County, IL.

Where we live influences our health and we can collaborate to improve the health of our community. This conference provides an opportunity for members of health, legal, environmental, and business professionals, as well as community residents and community-based organizations, to begin the process of addressing these current issues important to the public’s health.

The cost to attend is $40 if participants register by March 25, 2011, and includes meals and all conference materials. On-site registration will be available for $50. Registration and conference materials can be found at http://www.gchd.us.  Professional and student scholarships are also available for the conference.
