RE:                            Major Change in WIC Operations and

Temporary Closure of WIC Clinics in Genesee County

All Genesee County clinics for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) will be closed to the public from Monday, March 30, 2009 through Friday, April 3, 2009.  This includes the two Genesee County Health Department locations at the McCree Health Center and the Burton Branch, as well as the Bendle Family Health Services location.  All locations will re-open at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 6, 2009.

This temporary closure of WIC clinics is necessary to launch a new, state-wide computer application known as MI-WIC.  MI-WIC is expected to reduce wait times in WIC clinics.  MI-WIC supports Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) and will integrate with other health and human services benefit systems for greater efficiency and ease of use.  These improvements should increase customer satisfaction and result in fewer malnourished women, infants, and children in Genesee County.

Any Genesee County WIC participant that will need WIC services when WIC clinics are closed the week of March 30, 2009 must call (810) 600-2430 to schedule an appointment before March 27, 2009.  Calls to WIC when the clinics are closed will only be answered by voicemail and will be returned only after April 6, 2009.
