RE:
Black AIDS Awareness Campaign Health Fair
In recognition of the 5th Annual Black AIDS
Awareness Campaign, the Genesee County Health Department (GCHD) will promote
free HIV testing and HIV/STD education during a health fair on Thursday,
February 26, 2009. The family friendly health fair will be held in the
commons area on the second floor of the Floyd J. McCree Courts & Human
Services Building located at 630 S. Saginaw Street, Flint. While any
sexually active person is at risk for getting HIV, women and people of color
are more likely to become infected.
As a Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH)
designated HIV counseling and testing site, trained GCHD staff will offer
free HIV testing in the adult/teen clinic. The hours for the February 26,
2009 health fair are 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. The GCHD encourages anyone who is
sexually active to routinely get tested for STD’s. Testing is especially
important now because a syphilis outbreak continues to affect a record
number of people in Genesee County.
Health Department staff will also be available from
the tobacco reduction and maternal-infant health programs to provide
education and answer questions. The Black AIDS Awareness Health Fair and
HIV testing are free to the public; however, any parking fees are the
responsibility of the participants. Please contact the Genesee County
Health Department at 810-341-5900 regarding any questions about the event.
