RE:                           Mount Morris “Building Healthy Communities”

                                Coalition Meeting

            Genesee County Health Department will be hosting a planning meeting to recruit organizations, businesses, and individuals to participate in the Mount Morris “Building Healthy Communities” Coalition on February 17, 2009 at 6:00pm at the Mount Morris Library located at 685 Van Buren Avenue, Mount Morris, Michigan 48458.

The Genesee County Health Department has received a Building Healthy Communities planning grant from the Michigan Department of Community Health.  The Building Healthy Communities program has been in existence for 4 years and aims to reduce the burden of cardiovascular and chronic diseases in Michigan.  The program proposes to target three risk factors:  unhealthy eating, physical inactivity and tobacco use.  The community of focus for this project is the Mount Morris area, encompassing the 48458 zip code area.  In 2007, Mount Morris exhibited higher rates of overweight, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and smoking than Genesee County as a whole.
