RE:        Health Equity Featured at Public Health Week Conference

The Genesee County Health Department will feature the issue of health equity at its 2008 Public Health Week Conference on April 8 – 9, 2008.

Both days of the Public Health Week Conference include a Health Disparities track, exploring the unequal and unfair distribution of health in our community.  Among the topics to be discussed are:

·         Disparity in Access to Health Care among Low-Income Uninsured Adults

·         Health Disparities Associated with Local Violence

·         Disparity in Infant Mortality

On April 9th, the Health Disparities track will also feature the segment titled “When the Bough Breaks” from the PBS television series “Unnatural Causes – Is Inequality Making Us Sick?”, followed by a discussion with a panel of local experts. This segment shows the very real and negative effect that racism has on infant mortality.

Please visit the Genesee County Health Department web site at www.gchd.us for further information regarding the Health Equity Campaign and the 2008 Public Health Week Conference.
