RE: Health
Equity Featured at Public Health Week Conference
The Genesee County Health
Department will feature the issue of health equity at its 2008 Public Health
Week Conference on April 8 – 9, 2008.
Both days of the Public
Health Week Conference include a Health Disparities track, exploring the
unequal and unfair distribution of health in our community. Among the
topics to be discussed are:
·
Disparity
in Access to Health Care among Low-Income Uninsured Adults
·
Health
Disparities Associated with Local Violence
·
Disparity
in Infant Mortality
On April 9th,
the Health Disparities track will also feature the segment titled “When the
Bough Breaks” from the PBS television series “Unnatural Causes – Is
Inequality Making Us Sick?”, followed by a discussion with a panel of local
experts. This segment shows the very real and negative effect that racism
has on infant mortality.
