RE:
2007 Speak to Your Health! Community Survey Presentation
Has the health of Genesee County residents changed
since 2003? What roles do faith and spirituality play in health decisions?
Do Genesee County residents support smoke-free restaurants? The answers to
these questions and more are answered by over 1700 Genesee County residents
who participated in the 2007 Speak to Your Health! Community Survey.
Survey results will be presented on January 24, 2008 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
in the Genesee County Community Action Resource Department (GCCARD) Large
Conference Room, 601 N. Saginaw St. in Flint.
Topics to be covered include HIV/STD risk behaviors,
nutrition, physical activity, cancer screenings, neighborhood perceptions,
access to health care, impact of incarceration, smoking and smoking policy,
mental health, faith and spirituality, and more. The Speak to Your Health!
Community Survey was first conducted in 2003 and repeated in 2005 and 2007.
Data from all three years will be presented in order to examine possible
changes in community health.

The Speak to Your Health! Community Survey is a
project of the Prevention Research Center of Michigan (PRC/MI) Genesee
County Community Board. The goals of the survey are to increase
understanding of the health-related behaviors and attitudes of Genesee
County residents, inform health policy, support needs assessments for
developing programs, and identify community assets. The purpose of the PRC/MI
Genesee County Community Board is to conduct community-based participatory
research to improve the health of Genesee County residents, especially
African Americans, who experience a greater share of poor health outcomes.
The organizations represented on the PRC/MI Community
Board are Dort-Oak Park Neighborhood House, Faith Access to Community
Economic Development, Flint/Genesee County Neighborhood Roundtable, Flint
Odyssey House Health Awareness Center, Genesee County Community Action
Resource Department, Genesee County Health Department, Greater Flint Health
Coalition, University of Michigan–Flint, University of Michigan School of
Public Health, and YOUR Center. Additional information about the PRC/MI is
available on its website,
