Providing a smoke-free environment protects the health of employees and
customers, while providing a pleasurable dining experience.
As you choose these restaurants for a meal, look for the award issued by
the Genesee County Health Department (GCHD) and the Smoke-free, Multi-Agency,
Resource Team (SMART). The award is
an indication of the restaurant’s commitment to providing
Genesee
County
citizens with a
healthy dining environment.
According to the recent U.S. Surgeon General’s Report, there is no
risk-free level of exposure to secondhand smoke; even breathing a little poses a
risk to health. According to
Americans for Nonsmokers’ Rights, food service workers have a 50% greater risk
of dying from lung cancer than the general population, in part, because of
secondhand smoke exposure in the workplace.
“We are proud to honor these establishments for making the health of
their employees and patrons a priority”, stated Ann Goldon, Health Education
Coordinator for the Genesee County Health Department.
