RE:  Genesee County Health Department’s Public Health Week Conference

“Healthy Living, Healthy Lifestyles”

The Genesee County Health Department announces its 2nd Annual Public Health Week Conference to be held on April 4, 2007 from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Sarvis Conference Center, 1231 E. Kearsley St., in Flint, Michigan.

The conference, which is sponsored in part by a grant from the Ruth Mott Foundation, is entitled “Healthy Living, Healthy Lifestyles”. Its goal is to improve the public’s health in Genesee County and beyond by fostering communication and sharing best practices about current public health challenges and achievements. The conference will feature three nationally-recognized keynote speakers: Brick Lancaster, Chief, Program Services, Office on Smoking and Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; Barbara Flis, Appointee of Governor Granholm as Coordinator of the Governor’s Talk Early & Talk Often initiative; and Vincent Covello, the Founder and Director of the Center for Risk Communication, as well as six breakout sessions featuring experts from across the region. The conference will cover a broad range of health topics including emergency preparedness, environmental health, childhood obesity, health disparities, maternal and child health, and will have a particular focus on healthy sexuality.

The conference provides an opportunity for members of local, regional, and state health, legal, environmental, and business communities, as well as community residents and community-based organizations, to expand their knowledge and share practices about current public health issues. Attendees will be able to use the information from this event to strengthen their roles, and those of their organizations and communities, in improving community and individual health and quality of life.

Registration is now open. The cost to attend is $10 and includes the all-day conference and lunch. Registration and conference materials as well as information for vendors who would like to participate can be found at http://www.gchd.us/NPHWConference.
