RE:                                         Genesee County Smoke-free Dining Guide

In honor of the 30th Annual Great American Smoke-Out on November 16, 2006 , the Genesee County Health Department (GCHD) in collaboration with the Smoke-free, Multi-Agency, Resource Team (SMART) will release the Genesee County Smoke-free Dining Guide.  The guide will be available in brochure format at GCHD and on-line at GCHD’s website www.gchd.us.  The guide lists all identified smoke-free restaurants in Genesee County

According to the recent Surgeon General’s Report “The Health Consequences of Involuntary Exposure to Tobacco Smoke,” there is no risk-free level of exposure to secondhand smoke.  Secondhand smoke has been designated as a known human carcinogen (cancer-causing agent) by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, National Toxicology Program and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health has concluded that secondhand smoke is an occupational carcinogen.

The Great American Smoke-out is a great day for smokers to quit smoking and for Genesee County residents to support smoke-free environments.  For more information on quitting smoking or smoke-free environments please contact the health department at (810) 341-5898 .
