Genesee County Health Department Launches Emergency Preparedness Educational Campaign

The Genesee County Health Department is launching a campaign to educate the general public about emergency preparedness.  The campaign will make speakers available to community organizations, business associations, school districts, religious congregations, and other local groups.  Speakers will discuss current issues of concern such as pandemic flu and avian flu, and will frame these issues within the broad topic of public health emergencies.

The goal of the campaign is to cultivate a readiness among Genesee County residents to respond appropriately in the event of a public health emergency.  The presentations will give the public an overview of what types of emergencies to expect and what can be done now to prepare for them.  Also covered will be the role of the health department in an emergency and what the health department has done to improve its readiness and capacity to respond.

The Health Department is currently accepting requests for presentations and welcomes opportunities to reach as many people in one audience as possible.  Interested parties should call Carrie Chanter at (810) 768-7982 or email cchanter@gchd.us.  For further information regarding emergency preparedness, please visit the Health Department’s website at www.gchd.us.
