 Household Hazardous Waste Collection

The Genesee County Health Department announces today the Household Hazardous Waste Collection will take place on Saturday, May 13th, 2006. Many products used in homes, during lawn care, and fluids from our automobiles are hazardous and pose threats to human health and the environment if disposed of improperly. Pesticides, solvents, enamel paints and stains, used motor oil, cleaning chemicals, mercury-containing devices and batteries are a few hazardous wastes commonly found in homes.

On Saturday, May 13th the household hazardous waste collection will be held at the City of Flint Water Service Center at 3310 East Court Street, Flint and Lake Fenton High School at 4070 Lahring Road, Linden. The event will take place from 10 AM until 2 PM. All household hazardous wastes will be collected except explosive or radioactive materials, medical waste, commercial or industrial wastes, and latex paint.

Genesee County also has various local outlets to dispose of many hazardous materials year-round. See list is below. Citizens interested in finding out more about hazardous waste or to obtain a list of local outlets, contact the Genesee County Health Department at (810) 257-3603, or log onto www.gchd.us .
