Advisory of Sewage Spill into Flint River

The Genesee County Health Department is advising against contact with the Flint River downstream of Carpenter Road due to a sanitary sewer discharge near Western Road, west of the Kearsley Dam. The City of Flint indicates approximately 2000 gallons have been discharged over the past 24 hours.

The Genesee County Health Department will monitor bacteria levels in the river. Until test results are available, contact with the water should be avoided to prevent exposure to organisms that can cause disease. Disease symptoms may include diarrhea, cramps, nausea, and jaundice, and associated headaches and fatigue.
