Better Life Through Better Health
American
Heart Month
February is American Heart Month;
a time to resolve to start a regular
maintenance program for an
investment as valuable as your house
or car.
Your heart, weighing in at just
under a pound, is the hardest
working muscle in your body. It
pumps 5 quarts of blood every
minute, 60 minutes an hour, 24 hours
a day. Your heart can never just sit
in your body without working; it can
never take a break. Without your
heart pumping oxygen rich blood, all
the other organs in the body will
die.
If you maintain your heart’s
health it might last longer. Treat
this little one pound mighty mouse
like any other important investment.
Eat a diet low in saturated fats and
exercise every day. Don’t smoke,
and keep your weight within normal
limits. Control your blood pressure
and if you’re diabetic control
your blood sugar level. There are
really no "trade-ins".
Shouldn’t you take as good care of
your heart as you do your car?
