Feeding Baby For Success

Having a baby is such an exciting time! Once you bring your baby home from the hospital, the reality sets in - now I have to do what is best for baby. Feeding your baby the right way during the first year is so important. A baby's brain grows more while in the womb and during the first year of life than it ever will again. Baby's length and weight will increase faster now than at any other time in life. Much of your baby's intelligence, muscle and bone strength are developed during this important first year.

What is the best way to feed your baby the first four to six months? Breast milk is best. Mothers should seriously consider breast feeding for at least the first six months. It has the perfect mix of nutrients to help your baby grow and develop. It helps to build your baby's ability to fight germs and is easiest to digest.

The next best food for baby is iron fortified formula. There are many brands and types of formula from which to choose. If your baby has trouble digesting a formula, ask a nutritionist to help you select one which may be easier for baby to digest. Always prepare formula according to the directions on the can. Too much or too little water can be very harmful to your baby during this important time. By making sure that your baby's diet is all it should be now, you can help baby to be successful later in life!
