Don’t Break Your Heart

Valentine’s Day is a day to share our heart with those we love. But give a heart that will last a while. The best valentine to give your loved ones is healthy heart, one strong, not clogged with plaque.

It doesn’t take a lot to give a strong heart. To stay healthy, your heart needs a little exercise, about 30 minutes a day. To prevent clogged arteries, eat foods low in fat and salt. High blood pressure results from your heart having to force blood through small, constricted blood vessels. If your doctor prescribes blood pressure medicine, take it so your heart doesn’t have to work so hard. Do not smoke.

One in two deaths in Genesee County this year will be a result of heart disease. That doesn’t have to happen to you. Do something now. Don’t wait until your heart breaks to make changes. For more information about heart health, call the Genesee County Health Department at (810) 257-3106.
